Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop is Anthropic's native desktop application for Claude, available for macOS and Windows. Alongside standard chat, it has first-class support for MCP servers: adding one is a matter of editing a small JSON config file, after which Claude can use that server's tools directly inside a normal conversation.

This makes it the most common way non-developers run MCP servers locally — connecting Claude to a local filesystem, a calendar, a database, or any other MCP-compatible tool without writing any integration code.
